SCIENCE BEHIND ACUPUNCTURE

Some individuals argue that acupuncture and Eastern Medicine, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, are based solely on belief and mysticism, lacking scientific evidence or foundation. However, upon closer examination of dermatomes (nerve tracts), arteries, and veins in Western Medicine alongside acupuncture meridians and points in Eastern Medicine, one can observe significant overlap. Ancient practitioners developed their medicines and identified points based on our body's anatomy and pathophysiology, even in the absence of modern technologies such as X-ray or MRI imaging.

Dr. Li published his findings and hypothesis regarding the above fact in a journal in 2021(, YM, Li, J Anat. 2021 Jun;238(6):1494-1496, Three hand yin meridians in ancient Chinese medicine were established initially based on arterial structures), suggesting that this concept is increasingly being accepted by scientists.

As a scientist, I am interested in understanding the mechanisms through which acupuncture operates and how our bodies respond to it. By studying and reviewing various clinical researches, I have come across reliable scientific data that elucidates how acupuncture works and the science behind it. One of the most impressive aspects is that acupuncture regulates the production of neurotransmitters, enzymes, and hormones in the body, thereby intervening in our pathophysiological functions
